Who am I?
My name is Avril Baldauf, but you probably already caught on to that.
I was born here in Canada, however, I come from a small but close-knit Scottish family that immigrated here in the 1960s (that's me wearing my clans' tartan in the photo above). My heritage is what greatly inspired the name "Thistle Photos" for my businesses name - for those that don't know the Thistle is the national flower of Scotland.
As a photographer, I have been learning and developing my photography since 2016. I am currently located in Vancouver, BC, but I am originally from the Okanagan Valley which is in BC's interior and home to Canada's only desert. Lest to say, I am very appreciative of the Vancouver's rainy weather. In fact, I am very much obsessed with rain and bodies of water - one of my favourite styles to shoot is with a model in water or rain. Maybe this comes from being raised in a desert or my old competitive swimming days, but I'm ready for a photoshoot come rain or shine. I will occasionally still shoot in the Okanagan and other locations, so check out my social media handles for any upcoming trips I may be making!
I love doing portraits and artistic photoshoots, but I also do couple, family, engagement shoots, and headshots.
